Fatboy Slim
Right here, right now — big beat's showman, still one of the best party DJs alive, wielding 'Praise You' like a communal sacrament.
Fatboy Slim is Norman Cook, a producer and DJ based in Brighton. He played bass in The Housemartins in the 1980s before moving into dance music, recording as Beats International, Freak Power and Pizzaman, and eventually settling on the Fatboy Slim name in the mid-1990s.
The 1998 album You've Come a Long Way, Baby made him a mainstream figure, driven by "The Rockafeller Skank" and "Praise You," the latter paired with a Spike Jonze video that became as well known as the record. The big beat sound he helped define combines breakbeats, heavy samples and blunt, repeated hooks. He remains an active club and festival DJ, and has staged several large outdoor shows on Brighton beach.
