Brighton's ritualistic folk-punk coven — violin, drums, and wild-eyed harmony, part gig and part rite, folk horror you can dance to.

The New Eves are a four-piece from Brighton, England, in which all the members sing and swap between instruments, so violin, guitar, bass and drums move around the group rather than belonging to fixed players. Their writing draws on British and Irish traditional song and its darker subject matter, filtered through the volume and rhythmic drive of post-punk, with unison and close-harmony singing carrying much of the material.

The band emerged from the south-coast DIY scene and built its reputation on live performance, where the shared vocals and instrument changes give the sets a communal, almost ceremonial shape.

Onstage the band wear long, handmade white dresses and incorporate fake blood and improvised dance, staging each show as much as playing it. The material ranges from traditional folk and drone rock to anarcho-punk, moving between whimsical stringwork and savage guitar within the same set.

Their debut album, The New Eve Is Rising, was released last year. It gathered the band's early material into a fuller statement of the same ceremonial approach, and its reception has carried the band beyond the underground circuits where they started.
