Elephant 6-adjacent Athens folk-punk — horn-flecked, big-hearted anthems of queer joy and radical tenderness, community sung into being.

Nana Grizol formed in Athens, Georgia, around songwriter Theo Hilton, who also plays in the folk-punk band Defiance, Ohio. The group's shifting lineup has overlapped with the city's Elephant 6 circle, and its records tend to pair loose, sometimes ragged indie-rock arrangements with horns, giving the songs a homemade, marching-band warmth. Hilton's lyrics are conversational and openly political, returning to friendship, queerness, mutual aid and the small towns and shared houses where those things get worked out. Albums including Love It Love It, Ruth and South Somewhere Else have made the band a fixture of the American DIY underground.
