Jacob Sharp
Mipso's mandolinist and co-founder, raised in the North Carolina mountains and now out on his own; solo debut Middle Kid was built from the musical friendships he made in Brooklyn.
Jacob Sharp is a mandolinist and singer from the mountains of western North Carolina, best known as a co-founder of the string band Mipso. That group built its sound on close harmony singing and a loose approach to bluegrass instrumentation, drawing on folk and indie songwriting as much as traditional repertoire. Sharp's solo record Middle Kid grew out of collaborations with musicians he met in Brooklyn, and works in a quieter, more introspective register than the full band.
