The Onlies
Young Seattle-rooted string band who grew up playing together, giving old-time a fuller, denser and more propulsive sound than the form usually allows.
The Onlies came together in Seattle as children, learning old-time fiddle tunes together and continuing as a band into adulthood. Their repertoire draws on Appalachian and southern string-band traditions, played with fiddle, banjo, guitar and bass, and they have added original songs and vocal arrangements alongside the traditional material.
Compared with much old-time playing, their arrangements are fuller and more rhythmically driven, and the long-standing familiarity between the members shows in the tightness of the ensemble.
