The Head and the Heart
Seattle indie-folk harmonies — 'Rivers and Roads' will wreck you on a beach at dusk, exactly as designed.
The Head and the Heart came together in Seattle in 2009, meeting through open-mic nights in the city's bars. The band's music sits in the indie-folk range: acoustic guitar and piano, violin, and vocal harmonies shared between multiple singers, with arrangements that build from quiet verses to full-group choruses.
The group self-released its first album before signing to Sub Pop, and songs from that early period — among them "Rivers and Roads" and "Lost in My Mind" — remain the ones audiences know best. Later records have brought in fuller production and a broader pop-rock palette while keeping the group-vocal approach.
