Seattle art-punk cult heroes, reunited — jagged and beautiful, dance-punk urgency that a generation of bands studied.
Pretty Girls Make Graves formed in Seattle in 2001, drawing members from the city's hardcore and post-hardcore scene, including musicians who had played in Murder City Devils and Death Wish Kids. The band paired serrated, interlocking guitar lines with Andrea Zollo's declarative vocals, working in the space between post-punk, emo and dance-punk that defined much of the early 2000s American underground.
They released records through Lookout! and later Matador, and their sound broadened over time to take in keyboards and more intricate arrangements before the group ended in 2007. The band has since regrouped for live shows.
