Macseal is an emo band from Farmingdale, on Long Island, New York. The group began releasing music in 2015 with a self-titled EP, followed by Yeah, No, I Know in 2017 and Map It Out in 2018, a run of short releases that built the band's following before its full-length debut.
Super Enthusiast, the debut full-length, arrived in November 2019 on Counter Intuitive Records. The band works in the fifth-wave emo idiom, with clean, interlocking guitar lines, shifting time signatures and vocals passed between members rather than fixed on a single singer.
Vocals and guitar are split between Ryan Bartlett, who also plays keyboards, and Cole Szilagyi, with Justin Canavaciol on bass and Francesca Impastato on drums. Their songs tend to favour melody and restraint over volume, using bright guitar figures and unforced harmonies rather than the shouted dynamics common elsewhere in the genre.
