División Minúscula formed in 1996 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, on Mexico's northern border, and became one of the better-known Spanish-language bands working in the space between pop-punk, emo and straightforward guitar rock. Fronted by Javier Blake, the group built its following through the early 2000s with melodic, high-energy songs sung entirely in Spanish, and its early albums remain touchstones for listeners who came up with Mexican rock of that era.
