Ohio emo survivors whose mid-2000s records are still the reference point for the whole scream-over-the-chorus template — played now with veterans' gratitude.

Hawthorne Heights formed in Dayton, Ohio in 2001, and became one of the more widely heard bands of the mid-2000s emo and post-hardcore wave that grew up around Victory Records. Their sound pairs melodic, high-register lead vocals with harsh screamed counterpoint, layered guitars and choruses built for singing back, a formula that circulated widely among their contemporaries.

The band has continued recording and touring in the decades since, through lineup changes and label disputes, with vocalist and guitarist JT Woodruff a constant. Live, the older material still forms the backbone of the set.
