New Jersey post-hardcore that got angrier and more political as it aged, not softer — Buddy Nielsen leading with total candor.
Senses Fail formed in New Jersey in the early 2000s and were part of the wave of post-hardcore and emo bands that came out of the state at that time. The EP From the Depths of Dreams and the album Let It Enfold You established their mix of screamed and sung vocals, and Still Searching followed as the band's audience grew.
Vocalist Buddy Nielsen is the sole constant member and has become the group's defining presence, writing openly about mental health, addiction, sexuality and politics on later records such as Pull the Thorns from Your Heart and If There Is Light, It Will Find You. The music has stayed heavy, with the hardcore elements more pronounced than on the early releases.
