Nine Days formed on Long Island, New York, in the mid-1990s, built around the songwriting partnership of John Hampson and Brian Desveaux. The band played the New York-area club circuit and released independent records before signing to a major label, and their sound sits in the melodic guitar-pop end of late-1990s alternative rock.
They are best known for "Absolutely (Story of a Girl)," a widely played single that became a fixture of turn-of-the-century radio. The group continued recording and performing after their initial commercial run, with the two principal songwriters remaining at the centre of the project.
