Third Eye Blind formed in San Francisco in the early 1990s around singer and songwriter Stephan Jenkins. Their self-titled 1997 debut produced a run of singles — 'Semi-Charmed Life', 'How's It Going to Be', 'Jumper', 'Graduate' — that combined bright power-pop arrangements with lyrics about addiction, suicide and drift, a contrast that became the band's signature. Blue followed with 'Never Let You Go'.

Jenkins has remained the constant member through numerous line-up changes, and the band has continued releasing albums well beyond its late-1990s commercial peak. Live sets still lean on the first two records.
