'Endtroducing…' rewired what a sampler could do — Bay Area royalty on home turf, still digging deeper than anyone.

DJ Shadow is the recording name of Josh Davis, a producer and DJ from Davis, California, who became associated with the Bay Area's Solesides and later Quannum collectives. His 1996 debut Endtroducing….. was assembled largely from vinyl samples and is widely cited as a landmark in instrumental hip-hop and sample-based production.

He has continued to release albums across a career spanning three decades, working with collaborators including Cut Chemist, with whom he performed all-vinyl sets drawn from shared record collections. His live shows combine turntablism with heavy use of visuals and reworked versions of his catalogue.
