Sweden's dirtbag-pop auteur — hedonistic hooks with a broken heart underneath, 'Habits' honesty still the brand.

Tove Lo is a Swedish singer and songwriter from Stockholm, born Ebba Tove Elsa Nilsson. Raised in the Djursholm district of Danderyd, she trained at the Rytmus Musikergymnasiet music school and formed the rock band Tremblebee in 2006. After it disbanded she moved into songwriting, earning a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music in 2011.

Working alongside producers including Alexander Kronlund, Max Martin and Xenomania, she built a career writing for other artists before signing her own deal with Universal, Island and Polydor in 2013. She first drew attention with "Habits (Stay High)", which became an international hit, reaching number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 from her debut album, Queen of the Clouds.

She has since released a run of albums built on electropop and dance-pop production: Lady Wood (2016), led by the single "Cool Girl"; Blue Lips (2017); Sunshine Kitty (2019), which produced the Grammy-nominated "Glad He's Gone"; and Dirt Femme (2022), whose single "How Long" appeared on the soundtrack to Euphoria.

Her writing is frank about sex, drink and drugs, and about the emotional aftermath of both, delivered in a slightly hoarse voice over bright synth arrangements. She also works as a songwriter for other pop artists, co-writing Ellie Goulding's "Love Me Like You Do" and Lorde's "Homemade Dynamite", and has collaborated with performers including Charli XCX, Coldplay, Flume and Kylie Minogue.
