Robyn is a Swedish pop singer and songwriter from Stockholm who first recorded as a teenager in the 1990s, scoring international hits before stepping back from the major-label system and founding her own label, Konichiwa. The records she made afterwards, built around synth-pop and club production, established the sound she is best known for: plainly worded songs about heartbreak and self-possession set to music designed for a dancefloor. She works slowly, with long gaps between albums, and has collaborated with producers and artists across Scandinavian pop and electronic music. Her songs about dancing through grief have proved unusually durable, and are widely cited by later pop writers.
