Glitter-and-grit dance-pop — Y2K excess reborn as main-stage camp, played with total commitment to the fantasy.

Slayyyter grew up in Kirkwood, a suburb west of St. Louis, listening to her mother's records by the Beach Boys, Michael Jackson and Elton John, whose costumes later shaped her own stage look. She studied briefly at the University of Missouri before dropping out in 2016 to pursue music, supporting herself with odd jobs while writing and producing songs on her own.

Before her self-titled mixtape arrived in 2019, she built an audience by posting tracks directly to SoundCloud, without a label behind her. She moved into full-length records with Troubled Paradise in 2021 and Starfucker in 2023, refining the same mix of Y2K-era dance-pop and internet-native hyperpop production across both.

She has toured behind each of her own records and has also supported larger pop and dance acts on the road, including Charli XCX, Kesha and Tove Lo. Her audience, built substantially online, leans heavily toward queer listeners drawn to the exaggerated glamour of her persona.
