Smino
St. Louis rapper with an elastic, sing-song flow and jazz-schooled production underneath — Zero Fatigue's playful center of gravity.
Smino, born Christopher Smith in St. Louis, is a rapper and singer who developed in Chicago's creative music scene after moving there in his twenties. He comes from a musical family, and works closely with producer Monte Booker and the Zero Fatigue collective. His albums include blkswn, NØIR and Luv 4 Rent.
His style blurs rapping and singing, with a loose, syncopated delivery, heavy use of melody and ad-libs, and frequent slips into St. Louis slang. The production behind him tends toward warm, jazz- and soul-derived chords and unusual drum programming. He has collaborated widely, including with Noname, Saba and Anderson .Paak.
