Comedian and rapper in equal measure — the jokes are real and so, annoyingly, are the songs, beats from rap's A-list included.

Zack Fox, born Zachary Channing Fox in Atlanta, Georgia, in December 1990, first built an audience on Twitter starting in 2013, tweeting jokes under the alias Bootymath and gathering tens of thousands of followers. He later dropped the alias, joined the Awful Records collective, and expanded from writing jokes into stand-up, television, podcasting and music, the different sides of his career running together.

Alongside comedy, Fox worked as an illustrator and actor. In 2017 he drew the album sleeve for Thundercat's Drunk and acted in and co-wrote Kuso, a horror comedy film directed by Flying Lotus, the same year his profile widened beyond the jokes that had first got him noticed.

His songs are comic in intent but properly produced, often built on beats from well-regarded rap producers such as Kenny Beats, who worked on his first release, "Square Up," in October 2018. The pair returned to the studio in April 2019 for Kenny's YouTube series The Cave and recorded "Jesus Is the One (I Got Depression)" on the spot; after it reached number one on Spotify's US viral chart, they issued it officially, and it turned Fox from internet figure into touring artist.

Other songs followed the same route from bit to record: "The Bean Kicked In" ended up on the soundtrack of Grand Theft Auto V, played on the game's fictional FlyLo FM station hosted by Flying Lotus. In 2020 he released a cover of "Slob on My Knob," recruiting a run of rappers and Black public figures, in response to Gal Gadot's celebrity "Imagine" video. He has called his own genre "Shemar-Core," after actor Shemar Moore.

His 2021 debut album, shut the fuck up talking to me, gathered the approach into one record: absurd, deadpan writing over trap production, with Doechii and Bnyx among his other collaborators. Fox married chef and entrepreneur Kat Matutina in November 2024, after dating since 2018 and getting engaged in 2022; the two live in Los Angeles and co-host a radio show on NTS Radio.
