Sevendust formed in Atlanta in the mid-1990s and became one of the more durable bands to emerge alongside the nu-metal wave, though their music has always leaned closer to heavy alternative metal. The group is built around vocalist Lajon Witherspoon, whose soul-influenced singing sits over the downtuned, groove-based guitar work of John Connolly and Clint Lowery, with Vince Hornsby on bass and Morgan Rose on drums and backing vocals. Their self-titled debut and follow-ups Home and Animosity established a template of heavy riffing paired with melodic choruses, and the band has continued releasing albums and touring consistently for decades with a largely stable lineup.
