Evanescence formed in Little Rock, Arkansas in the mid-1990s around singer and pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody. Their 2003 debut Fallen, and its single 'Bring Me to Life', made the band a fixture of rock radio and established a template widely copied afterwards: classically inflected piano and string arrangements set against downtuned guitars, with Lee's soprano carrying the melody.
Moody left the band shortly after that album, and Lee has remained the constant member through subsequent lineups and records. Live, the group performs with a full band and often incorporates orchestral arrangements; Lee has also recorded orchestral versions of the catalogue.
