Teenage Ontario nu-metal that hardened into a genuinely heavy career — Morgan Lander's growl was never a novelty, and the comeback proved it.

Kittie formed in London, Ontario, in 1996, when its members were still in their early teens. The band is built around sisters Morgan Lander, on guitar and vocals, and drummer Mercedes Lander, and broke through with a debut album that arrived at the height of nu metal's commercial peak.

Their sound moved away from that starting point over time, taking in groove metal, death metal growls and melodic passages, with Morgan Lander alternating between clean singing and a full-throated roar. Kittie went through a long period of inactivity before returning to recording and touring, and the band's early prominence as an all-female metal group remains a defining part of its story.
