Teenage Ontario nu-metal that hardened into a genuinely heavy career — Morgan Lander's growl was never a novelty, and the comeback proved it.

Kittie formed in London, Ontario, in 1996, founded by guitarist Fallon Bowman and drummer Mercedes Lander. Singer and guitarist Morgan Lander and bassist Tanya Candler joined the following year, with the band's members still in their early teens. Sisters Morgan and Mercedes Lander have remained Kittie's only constant members ever since.

Signed to Ng Records, the band released its debut album, Spit, in 1999, later reissued through Artemis Records. The record went gold in the United States, selling more than 600,000 copies, and led to a support tour with Slipknot as nu metal reached its commercial peak.

Oracle (2001) and Until the End (2004) pushed the band toward groove metal, alternative metal and death metal growls, with Morgan Lander alternating clean singing and a full-throated roar. Neither record matched Spit's sales, and Kittie parted ways with Artemis in 2005.

After founding their own label, X of Infamy, Kittie released Funeral for Yesterday in 2007, then signed to eOne Music for In the Black (2009) and I've Failed You (2011) before going on an extended hiatus. Members pursued other projects until a 20th-anniversary documentary and one-off reunion concert arrived in 2018.

Kittie eventually reunited to record Fire, released in 2024 through Sumerian Records, their first album in thirteen years. The current lineup adds guitarist Tara McLeod and bassist Ivy Jenkins alongside the Lander sisters, and the band is estimated to have sold one to two million albums worldwide.
