From Ashes To New
Rap-rock revivalists trading verses between a singer and an MC, straight out of the 2000s playbook — updated production, same adrenaline.
From Ashes to New formed in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 2013 around rapper and multi-instrumentalist Matt Brandyberry, who has remained the band's only constant member through several line-up changes. The group released its first single, "My Fight," the same year, followed by a self-titled EP and, in 2015, a second EP called Downfall.
Their debut album, Day One, appeared in February 2016, followed later that year by a deluxe edition with extra tracks. Around the same period the band recorded "Hail the Crown" with CFO$, which served as the theme for the WWE program 205 Live.
In 2017 drummer Tim D'onofrio and singer Chris Musser left the band. Mat Madiro, formerly of Trivium, took over on drums, and Danny Case, previously of Vanity Strikes, was chosen as the new lead vocalist after a public audition process conducted through social media.
The Future, released in April 2018, produced the single "Crazy," which peaked at number three on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart, helping the album debut at number 163 on the Billboard 200. Other singles have performed similarly well, including "Through It All," which reached number six, and "Panic," which reached number eleven.
The band's most recent album, Reflections, was previewed in July 2025 by the single "New Disease," addressing themes of attention-seeking and self-destruction. Their sound draws on artists ranging from Korn and Linkin Park to Bone Thugs-n-Harmony and Pantera, mixing rapped verses with heavier rock and metal textures.
