Best known for turning 'Smooth Criminal' into an alt-metal hit — which undersells a Riverside band with a real ear for a chorus and more melodic instinct than their era usually rewarded.

Alien Ant Farm formed in Riverside, California in the mid-1990s, with Dryden Mitchell on vocals and Terry Corso on guitar. They emerged during the nu-metal era and shared some of its rhythmic bounce and downtuned riffing, but their records leaned harder on melody and pop songcraft than most of their peers.

The band broke through with their cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal," which became a substantial radio and video hit and remains the song most listeners know them by. The same album produced "Movies," another single that circulated widely. They have continued to record and tour in the years since, with Mitchell and Corso anchoring the lineup.
