Sermonizing metallic hardcore delivered less like a set than a revival meeting — altar calls between breakdowns.

Sleeping Giant formed in Riverside, California, in 2006, mostly by musicians who had previously played together in the band xDeathstarx. Fronted by vocalist Tommy Green, the group became one of the more prominent acts in the Christian hardcore scene of that era, playing metallic hardcore built on heavy breakdowns.

Green's lyrics and stage presence drew directly on his preaching, and shows often included spoken exhortation between songs, turning sets into something closer to a revival meeting than a standard hardcore gig.

The band's discography began with Dread Champions of the Last Days in 2007 on Facedown Records, followed by Finished People on Century Media in 2014. Sleeping Giant returned to Facedown for a final album, I Am, announced in December 2017 and led by the single "No Love".

Sleeping Giant played its last show in February 2018 after touring widely within Christian and general hardcore circuits. Green went on to form the metalcore worship band HolyName with guitarist Joe Holt in 2021, releasing a self-titled debut on Facedown in 2023.
