DRAIN formed in Santa Cruz, California in 2014, playing hardcore with a heavy debt to crossover thrash — fast, riff-driven songs with breakdowns and a bright, unserious streak that sets them apart from the genre's grimmer corners. Sammy Ciaramitaro fronts the band.
They built their following through relentless touring and a reputation for chaotic, good-natured live shows, and were among the hardcore bands that broke to a wider audience in the early 2020s. Their studio albums have been released through independent hardcore and metal labels, and their sound draws openly on late-1980s Bay Area thrash as much as on contemporary hardcore.
