Body Count is a Los Angeles metal band formed by Ice-T and guitarist Ernie C, who knew each other from Crenshaw High School. The group emerged at the start of the 1990s, pairing thrash and hardcore riffing with Ice-T's rapped and shouted delivery, and drew national controversy over the song "Cop Killer" from their debut album.
The band has continued through several line-up changes, including the deaths of original members, and has kept working steadily into recent decades with albums that address police violence, racism and street life in the same direct terms as Ice-T's rap records.
