Venice crossover legends — 'Institutionalized' and a pit that never ages, Cyco Mike still leading the charge.

Suicidal Tendencies formed in Venice, California in 1981 around vocalist Mike Muir, the one constant member across the band's history. Their 1983 debut album mixed hardcore punk speed with a sardonic lyrical streak, and "Institutionalized" became one of the era's most recognisable punk songs, helped by early MTV play. Over the following decade the band moved toward thrash and metal, and later incorporated funk and bass-driven grooves, particularly during Robert Trujillo's tenure before he joined Metallica. The group's imagery, bandanas and skate-culture associations remain closely tied to its identity, and it has continued to tour with rotating lineups.
