Anyma
Matteo Milleri's solo project, pairing cavernous melodic techno with AI-rendered visual worlds built for the biggest screens available — half DJ set, half sci-fi planetarium.
Anyma is the solo outlet of Matteo Milleri, the Italian-American producer also known as one half of the duo Tale of Us and co-founder of the Afterlife label and event series that shaped a dark, cinematic strain of melodic techno. Based in Berlin, he launched Anyma in 2021 as a separate project from his group work.
Anyma's debut EP, Claire, appeared in June 2021 on Rose Avenue Records, its title track accompanied by what was billed as the first full-size, full-definition NFT music video. A second EP, Sentient, followed a month later on Afterlife Records, setting a pattern of pairing tracks with blockchain-based visual work.
The first full-length album, Genesys, arrived in August 2023 with guest artists including Grimes, Sevdaliza, Chris Avantgarde, Rebūke and CamelPhat. Built around themes of artificial intelligence and coexistence with machines, it made Anyma Beatport's top-selling artist of the year and reached No. 5 on the UK Dance Albums Chart, with singles such as "Consciousness" and "Welcome to the Opera" becoming genre staples.
Live shows built around the album introduced EVA, a humanoid robot character developed with visual artist Alessio De Vecchi that became the centerpiece of Anyma's sets, alongside recurring large-scale CGI and android imagery. A second album, Genesys II, followed in March 2024 with 21 tracks, featuring PARISI and Karin Park and remixes from Eric Prydz and Amelie Lens.
In late 2024, Milleri became the first electronic artist to headline a residency at Sphere in Las Vegas, titled Afterlife presents Anyma: The End of Genesys, with guest appearances from Ellie Goulding, Grimes, FKA Twigs and Yeat, whose set marked the first rap performance at the venue. Extra dates were added into 2025 after the first shows sold out within a day.
