Sabrina Carpenter was born on May 11, 1999, in Quakertown, Pennsylvania, and raised nearby in East Greenville. She began studying voice at six and by ten was posting cover videos of Christina Aguilera and Adele songs on YouTube, which led her father to build her a home recording studio.

She broke through playing Maya Hart on the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World from 2014 to 2017, having already signed with Hollywood Records, where she released Eyes Wide Open, Evolution and the two-part Singular. Alongside music she appeared in films including Adventures in Babysitting, The Hate U Give, Clouds and Emergency, and starred in the Netflix comedies Tall Girl and Work It.

She joined Island Records in 2021, and Emails I Can't Send, released the following year, marked a shift toward more personal, sharply written pop, producing the multi-platinum singles Nonsense and Feather. Short n' Sweet followed in 2024, topping the Billboard 200 and winning two Grammy Awards, with the singles Espresso and Please Please Please, the latter her first number one on the Hot 100.

The album draws on disco, country-tinged pop and production touches borrowed from the 1970s and 80s. A seventh album, Man's Best Friend, followed in 2025, also topping the Billboard 200, led by the number-one single Manchild.

Much of her writing turns on comic timing and double meaning, a humour that carries into her live shows. She has hosted and performed as musical guest on Saturday Night Live, played Cady Heron in the Broadway musical Mean Girls, and holds two Grammy Awards, an Emmy, a Brit Award and three American Music Awards among other honours.
