Bini
The eight-piece that broke Filipino pop internationally — K-pop-grade choreography discipline applied to a distinctly local songbook, with a fanbase that travels loud.
Bini is an eight-member Filipino girl group formed in Manila, trained through ABS-CBN's Star Hunt Academy program before debuting under Star Magic in 2020. Originally billed as the Star Hunt Academy Girls, the members spent three years preparing together. Their name comes from the Tagalog word binibini, meaning young lady, and is meant to reflect modern Filipino women.
The group works in a P-pop idiom shaped by K-pop production and choreography practice, taking in bubblegum pop, dance-pop, EDM and hip hop, with songs written in both Filipino and English. Critics have noted the range extends well beyond any single genre label.
Their material ranges from bright, hook-led singles to slower ballads, and their live shows lean on synchronised group choreography and vocal splits across the eight members.
Before their first official single, Bini released a pop cover of Ryan Cayabyab's "Da Coconut Nut." Their debut album, Born to Win, was promoted with its title track and "Kapit Lang," and their second, Feel Good, was later certified gold. The single "Pantropiko" spread through a TikTok dance challenge and became a summer anthem, while the EP Talaarawan topped the Philippine singles chart.
Bini became one of the most visible acts in the recent wave of Philippine pop, building the country's largest streaming numbers among pop groups on Spotify and a large, organised domestic fanbase that has followed them to shows abroad. They were the first Filipino act to top Spotify Philippines' daily artist chart and later won Best Asia Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
