Karol G
Medellín's biggest export since the reggaeton boom — a stadium-scale performer whose records mix perreo, bachata, and unabashed pop, delivered with world-tour polish.
Carolina Giraldo Navarro was born in 1991 in Medellín, the youngest of three children. At fourteen she appeared on the Colombian version of The X Factor, and she later signed her first record contract before adopting the name Karol G. In 2014 she moved to New York and signed with Universal Music Latino.
Her 2018 duet "Secreto" became a regional hit and doubled as the public confirmation of her relationship with Puerto Rican artist Anuel AA. The following year she appeared on "China" alongside Anuel AA, Daddy Yankee, Ozuna and J Balvin, which became her first music video to pass a billion YouTube views.
Her 2019 album Ocean pulled back from the pop leanings of her earlier work toward a looser reggaetón sound, and its title track was later reworked as a remix with Jessie Reyez. That year's single "Tusa" went on to be certified 28 times Latin platinum. During the pandemic she released "Ay, Dios Mío!", "Bichota" and "Location" ahead of her album KG0516, which topped the US Latin albums chart.
Mañana Será Bonito followed in 2023, and "TQG", her collaboration with fellow Colombian Shakira, became her highest-charting US single, reaching number seven on the Hot 100. Karol G's honours now run to a Grammy, eight Latin Grammy Awards including Album of the Year and Best New Artist, five Billboard Music Awards, and eleven Guinness World Records.
