Dominican rapper whose raw, deliberately provocative dembow made her a genuine cultural flashpoint — underground Santo Domingo carried to global stages.

Tokischa Altagracia Peralta Juárez grew up in Santo Domingo and entered music almost by accident, after working for the photographer Raymi Paulus, who encouraged her into the industry. She signed with Paulus Music and released her debut single, "Pícala", before building a following through independent tracks and videos shot in the city's neighbourhoods.

She has said no single genre defines her, though trap, hip hop and dembow dominate her catalogue. She has described trap as "modern rock," the genre she loved growing up, and names the Dominican producer DJ Scuff as an early influence. Her lyrics stay blunt and sexual, which has repeatedly drawn censure in Dominican media.

Her profile widened once she crossed into pan-Latin pop: "Linda" with Rosalía became a commercial breakthrough, followed by "Perra" with J Balvin and "La Combi Versace" on Rosalía's Motomami. Paulus Music also signed a distribution deal with Roc Nation's Equity Distribution around this period. In 2022 she featured on "Hung Up on Tokischa", a dembow remix of Madonna's "Hung Up".

Tokischa identifies as bisexual and has spoken openly about being pushed into sex work at eighteen, work she has described as frustrating and demeaning. She later turned to OnlyFans as a way to control explicit content on her own terms after facing repeated censorship on Instagram, a decision that has fed into her wider reputation as a divisive figure both in the Dominican Republic and abroad.
