Young Thug, born Jeffery Lamar Williams in Atlanta, became one of the most influential rappers of the 2010s through a series of mixtapes including Barter 6 and the Slime Season releases. His approach to vocals — sliding between singing, yelping and half-rapped melody, often treating words as texture rather than plain speech — reshaped how a generation of rappers approached trap. The 2019 album So Much Fun reached number one in the United States, and he has a long association with producers including Metro Boomin and London on da Track. He founded the label and collective YSL, and co-wrote Camila Cabello's 'Havana'.
