Pedal steel and yacht-rock chords under deadpan songwriting about being slightly bored and very sad — Atlanta cool that turned ennui into a signature sound.

Faye Webster was born in 1997 and grew up in Atlanta, where several family members played music; she was already writing songs by age 14 and performing at open mics before her father encouraged her to record them. She briefly studied songwriting at Belmont University in Nashville before dropping out and moving home, later signing to Atlanta's Awful Records.

Her sound sits between indie folk, country and soft soul: pedal steel, loose rhythm-section playing, jazz-inflected chords, and a flat, conversational vocal delivery. Lyrics stay plain-spoken, dwelling on relationships, boredom and small domestic details, with a dry humour that cuts against the lushness of the arrangements.

Webster has released five studio albums, from her self-released 2013 debut Run and Tell through Atlanta Millionaires Club, I Know I'm Funny Haha and 2024's Underdressed at the Symphony, alongside two live-leaning EPs recorded at Electric Lady Studios and with orchestral backing. Her single 'Better Distractions' was named one of Barack Obama's favourite songs of 2020.

Alongside music, Webster works as a photographer, shooting portraits of musicians connected to Atlanta's rap scene, an interest that keeps her records sitting slightly apart from conventional singer-songwriter production.
