Playboi Carti is a rapper from Atlanta, born Jordan Carter, who emerged in the mid-2010s with a style built more on cadence, ad-libs and texture than on conventional verses. His 2017 self-titled mixtape produced the widely circulated "Magnolia," and the 2018 album Die Lit pushed further into distorted, high-tempo production. Whole Lotta Red, released at the end of 2020, leaned into a harsher, punk-adjacent sound and a higher-pitched vocal delivery that proved enormously influential on the wave of rap that followed.

Much of his work has been produced by longtime collaborator Pi'erre Bourne, and his live shows are known for stripped stage design, heavy low end and crowd movement rather than note-perfect renditions of the records.
