Dutch hardcore's most recognisable mask — twenty-odd years of relentless gabber kicks and horror-film samples, with no interest in mellowing.

Angerfist is the main alias of Danny Masseling, born in 1981, a Dutch producer and DJ working in hardcore techno and gabber. He started producing at 16, working with breakbeats and 4-beat loops before sending a demo to Mark Vos of BZRK Records in 2001, who signed him and released his first EPs under the names Menace II Society and Angerfist.

His productions are built on distorted kick drums at high tempos, layered with samples lifted from horror and crime films, an approach that became known within the gabber scene as nustyle. Tracks such as "Dance with the Wolves," "Raise Your Fist" and "Riotstarter" established his catalogue by the mid-2000s, and in 2005 he produced the official anthem for Masters of Hardcore, "The World Will Shiver."

Performances are staged with a white hockey-style mask and black hoodie, an image drawn from horror films. Masseling has said the mask began as a response to stage fright, letting audiences focus on the music rather than his stage persona, and he has kept it since. He records under several other aliases and is part of the groups Supreme Team, Masters Elite and Roland & Sherman.

Live, Angerfist has long performed alongside MC Prozac, who since 2013 has taken on the DJ Bloodcage alias for stage shows while both remain involved in the project's studio work. Angerfist has built a steady stream of releases and appearances across the European hardcore circuit and internationally.
