Hatebreed formed in Connecticut in the mid-1990s around vocalist Jamey Jasta, and have been one of the more consistent presences in metallic hardcore since. Their songs are short, riff-driven and built around breakdowns, with lyrics that deal in perseverance, self-reliance and recovery rather than the nihilism common to heavy music. That combination of aggressive delivery and affirmative content is central to their reputation.

Jasta has also worked as a broadcaster and podcast host and fronted other projects, but Hatebreed's live approach has stayed the same: fast, loud, and geared towards crowd participation.
