We Came As Romans
Melodic metalcore that leans hard on the clean-sung hook, carrying a decade-plus of hard-won catharsis — brotherhood themes made literal.
We Came as Romans formed in Troy, Michigan in 2005 and became one of the more melodically inclined bands of the late-2000s American metalcore wave. Their music pairs screamed verses with big clean choruses, frequently layering in synths and orchestral textures, and their lyrics have leaned toward themes of perseverance, loyalty and mutual support.
The band's early records, including To Plant a Seed and Understanding What We've Grown to Be, established that formula, and later albums such as Cold Like War and Darkbloom pushed toward a heavier, darker sound. Clean vocalist and keyboardist Kyle Pavone died in 2018; the group continued with Dave Stephens taking on a wider vocal role.
