Melodic metalcore that leans hard on the clean-sung hook, carrying a decade-plus of hard-won catharsis — brotherhood themes made literal.

We Came as Romans began in Troy, Michigan, in 2005, when a group of high school classmates started a band called This Emergency, renaming themselves We Came as Romans the following year. The lineup went through several early changes before settling into the group that would record its first material.

The band's sound pairs screamed verses with big clean choruses, often layered with synths and orchestral textures, and its lyrics lean toward perseverance, loyalty and mutual support.

After releasing two EPs, Demonstrations and Dreams, in 2008, the band brought in Kyle Pavone as clean vocalist and keyboardist, cementing the two-vocalist format that defined its records.

Signed to Equal Vision Records from 2009, the band released To Plant a Seed, Understanding What We've Grown to Be, Tracing Back Roots and a self-titled album, before moving to SharpTone Records in 2016 and following with Cold Like War, Darkbloom and All Is Beautiful... Because We're Doomed.

Kyle Pavone died in 2018, and the band continued with Dave Stephens taking on a wider vocal role alongside the group's established screamed-and-clean format.
