The Almost
Aaron Gillespie stepping out from behind the kit for scrappier, southern-tinged rock songs with the grit left in — Underoath's drummer, unplugged from the chaos.
The Almost began in Clearwater, Florida, in 2005 as a project for Aaron Gillespie, best known as the drummer and clean vocalist of Underoath. Gillespie wrote the songs and initially recorded much of the material himself, moving to the front as singer and guitarist with a touring band behind him. The music trades post-hardcore intensity for a rougher, more straightforward rock approach, with Southern rock and gospel inflections and lyrics shaped by Gillespie's faith. The project has run intermittently alongside his work with Underoath and his own solo releases.
