Deathcore's early standard-bearers — blast beats into breakdowns, delivered at maximum volume, with Mitch Lucker's legacy carried respectfully forward.

Suicide Silence started in Riverside, California, in 2002 as a side project for musicians already playing in other bands. An early demo featured vocalist Tanner Womack, but Mitch Lucker joined as a second vocalist in 2003 and quickly became the band's sole singer. A self-titled EP followed in 2005 on Third Degree Records, with Mark Heylmun joining on lead guitar shortly after its recording.

The band toured relentlessly behind the EP, playing with All Shall Perish and Light This City and making its first overseas trip in 2006 to support Abigail Williams in the UK. Century Media Records signed the band that year, and the debut album The Cleansing was recorded in Los Angeles in 2007.

Suicide Silence became one of the central bands in deathcore's rise in the late 2000s, combining death metal blast beats and tremolo riffing with breakdowns and metalcore structures. The Cleansing and No Time to Bleed established the band's profile, and Revolver gave them its Golden God award for Best New Talent in 2009; Loudwire later grouped Suicide Silence with Whitechapel, Thy Art Is Murder and Job for a Cowboy as deathcore's "Big Four".

Vocalist Mitch Lucker died in a motorcycle accident in 2012. The band continued with Hernan "Eddie" Hermida, formerly of All Shall Perish, taking over vocals, and has kept recording and touring since, building a catalogue that now runs to seven studio albums, three EPs and nineteen music videos.
