Alex Terrible's subterranean roar over deathcore built like siege machinery — as much spectacle as band, and heavier than both.

Slaughter to Prevail formed in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in 2014, centered on vocalist Alex Terrible, born Aleksandr Shikolay, who had already built a large YouTube following for extreme vocal covers, and guitarist Jack Simmons, previously of the London band Acrania. The two remain the only constant members through many lineup changes, and the band is now based in Orlando, Florida.

The band pairs Terrible's extremely low guttural register, the group's calling card, with deathcore built on slow, weighted breakdowns and blunt riffing, mixed with elements of death metal and nu metal. Live, Terrible often performs in a metal mask, making the show as much a visual spectacle as a musical one.

An EP, Chapters of Misery, released in 2015, built enough underground momentum that Sumerian Records signed the band the following year. Their debut album, Misery Sermon, followed in 2017, then Kostolom in 2021 and Grizzly in 2025.

Slaughter to Prevail has toured with Cannibal Corpse on Summer Slaughter and joined Whitechapel's Ten Years of Exile tour, though visa restrictions on Russian musicians forced them to cancel several planned North American dates in the late 2010s. Much of the band's audience still arrived through clips of Terrible's vocal performances rather than radio or press.
