Architects
Brighton metalcore institution that rebuilt itself after the loss of founding drummer and chief songwriter Tom Searle, trading pit-focused aggression for something vast and cleanly engineered without losing the weight.
Architects formed in Brighton in 2004 around twin brothers Dan and Tom Searle, with Sam Carter taking over as vocalist early on. Their first records leaned toward mathcore before the band settled into a heavier, more melodic metalcore built on Tom Searle's writing, and albums such as "Lost Forever // Lost Together" and "All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us" moved them to arena-scale audiences.
Tom Searle died of cancer in 2016. The band continued with Josh Middleton joining on guitar, releasing "Holy Hell" in 2018 and then moving toward a cleaner, more electronic and atmospheric sound on subsequent albums, a shift that divided some of their earlier following while broadening their reach.
