Lorna Shore
New Jersey deathcore act whose blackened, orchestral extremity broke out of the underground once Will Ramos took the mic — vocal contortion as spectacle.
Lorna Shore formed in New Jersey in 2010 and spent their early years in the American deathcore underground, releasing albums that combined death metal riffing with symphonic and black metal textures. The band went through several vocalist changes before Will Ramos joined at the end of the 2010s, and his range of guttural and shrieked techniques — widely circulated in vocal-playthrough videos — brought the group a much larger audience.
Their music pairs blast beats, tremolo-picked guitar and orchestral arrangements with breakdowns drawn from deathcore, and they have become one of the more prominent bands in extreme metal since that shift.
