Bloodywood formed in New Delhi in 2013, initially posting metal versions of Indian pop songs online before turning to original material. The band combines nu metal riffing and rap-influenced vocals with dhol, flute and other Indian folk instrumentation, and sings in both Hindi and English.

Their songs address subjects including mental health, sexual violence, and prejudice, usually with a direct, slogan-like delivery. The group built its audience largely through the internet before touring internationally, and remains one of the better-known metal acts to emerge from India.
