Snot
Late-'90s funk-metal cut short by tragedy — hyperactive, punk-fast, and still fondly guarded by everyone who caught them the first time.
Snot formed in Santa Barbara, California, in 1995, and became part of the wave of American bands mixing hardcore punk speed with funk basslines and hip-hop-inflected vocals in the late 1990s. Fronted by Lynn Strait, the group played fast, aggressive songs that owed as much to punk as to the metal scene they were grouped with. Strait died in a car accident in 1998, ending the band's original run. Their small recorded output and short career have kept them a reference point for listeners who followed the funk-metal and nu-metal scenes of that period, and surviving members have revisited the material in later years.
