Synth-forward nu-metal in vinyl trousers — the New Order cover was the hit, but the originals leaned genuinely cold and chrome-plated.
Orgy formed in Los Angeles in 1994, built around a sound that pushed synthesizers and downtuned eight-string guitars to the front of what was otherwise nu-metal — the band coined the term "death pop" for it. They were signed to Korn's Elementree label, and their debut album Candyass appeared in 1998. Their cover of New Order's "Blue Monday" became their best-known song and a fixture of late-1990s rock radio, followed by the single "Stitches." A second album, Vapor Transmission, came in 2000. The group has continued intermittently, with singer Jay Gordon the constant presence.
