'Hey Man Nice Shot' — Richard Patrick's industrial-rock sneer intact, machine-tooled riffs from NIN's family tree.
Filter was formed in 1993 by Richard Patrick, who had spent the preceding years playing guitar in the live incarnation of Nine Inch Nails, and Brian Liesegang. The debut album Short Bus arrived in 1995 and produced "Hey Man Nice Shot," a grinding, distorted single that became the band's best-known song. Title of Record followed in 1999 and yielded the quieter, acoustic-led "Take a Picture," showing a side of the band that its heavier material tended to obscure.
Patrick has remained the constant figure through numerous lineup changes and a catalogue that moves between programmed industrial rock and more conventional alternative rock songwriting. Live, the emphasis falls on the abrasive end of that range.
