Highly Suspect
Bluesy, scuffed-up rock delivered with a chip on the shoulder and a genuine gift for a chorus — grit and hooks at festival scale.
Highly Suspect formed on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, around 2009, with Johnny Stevens on vocals and guitar alongside twin brothers Rich and Ryan Meyer on bass and drums. The band started out playing covers in local bars before moving toward original material and relocating to Brooklyn.
Their sound combines blues-rock riffing with grunge and modern alternative rock production, with Stevens's rasp and openly confessional lyrics at the centre. The 2015 album Mister Asylum and its single "Lydia" brought them to rock radio, and later records have added more electronic and hip-hop-influenced textures to the guitar core.
