Marcus King is a guitarist and singer from Greenville, South Carolina, born into a musical family — his father, Marvin King, was a working blues guitarist — and he began performing publicly as a teenager. The Marcus King Band, formed in the mid-2010s, pairs his playing with a horn section, drawing on Southern rock, blues, soul and jazz in a way that invites comparison to the Allman Brothers and Derek Trucks.
The band's self-titled 1976-indebted album was produced by Warren Haynes, and King has also recorded under his own name, including a solo record made with Dan Auerbach in Nashville. Live, the group leans on extended arrangements and King's vocals as much as his guitar.
